Our self-confidence is shaken, our identity fragmented. Under these conditions, more than before, art should give us support to accept the ambiguities and contradictions of our lives and to develop contemporary and peace-making attitudes. Yet, artists have to be careful not to become social engineers attempting to solve society's problems: art must, with its own means, insist on perspectives such as freedom of thought, unlimited imagination, critical review and tolerance. These issues, of course, have to be formulated individually and with care, according to the contexts of different societies and local conditions.

Future art, using the tools for reflection artists have developed since the ‘60s and based on the attentive study of the relationships between form and content, rationality and emotion, experience and intuition, will be able to play its part in an active dialogue with society.
