Undiscovered or Future

Undiscovered art will not be future art. In our present situation the art world needs to discover something every three seconds, therefore, if any art remains undiscovered in the future, it is probably undiscoverable.

Art which does not make one-liners; art which cannot be downloaded within 5 seconds by clicking on the loading button; art which does not produce a catchy photo for art magazines; art which does not give art critics enough ambiguity to quote from whoever theorists they want – these are undiscoverable. They will be buried until one cannot tell one from the other. Artists already buried alive under waitressing and cleaning jobs until they are discovered to sell some other skills of their own besides making art.

Art from places outside the Euro-American axis which do not perform the assumed national or cultural-specific characteristics; art from colored individuals within the Euro-American axis who do not display their cultural specificity, their colored skins on their work – these are undiscoverable. Art which cannot be tokenized cannot be discovered because there is nothing to discover. They will be buried among the ruins, in Downtown New York and beyond.

Future art will have more spectacles, more gimmicks, more theoretical and emotional clichés, more technological toys for their own sake. While undiscoverable art has too much to say, and therefore becomes a nuisance in our "information age", future art has nothing to say. More nothing the better.

Future art is full of terror and cynicism. It is what nobody believes in and it displays the state of unbelief. The state of being forever dominated by advanced capitalism, racism and patriarchy. Future art hates these words because it represents them as things are. Future art will be those to be continually discovered by art dealers and continually make curators stars. Future art subscribes to the unchangeability of our social givens. Future art embodies and performs social evils as if it critiques them. But all it does is that it makes us feel less guilty, helps us continue to ignore them.

Future art will be one which tells us exactly what to do, where nature lies – within and beyond us, how to alleviate stress in our lives, how to deal with biological war, how to free us from mechanical domination, increasing fragmentation of our lives as well as our hard discs, how to cure a widespread fatal disease called "having intimacy issues". Future art will provide us all the false or temporarily true answers. Future art is what fulfills needs that can be named. Future art is what sounds good, looks good, feels good. It makes us interact with it, so we can look smarter. Future art is what we are happy to believe in, to participate in, for 5 seconds.

Let the undiscovered be undiscovered! Let's keep discovering, until there's nothing to discover! Let's discover future art! Future art is in you and me!
