Because of the speed and indetermination of the high flux of information, nowadays prediction goes hand in hand with potential actuality ... so I really don't know what I'm going to say the next future is ... always seemingly a little bit utopian & boundless, or could have just becoming actuality somehow somewhere ... .
"Complexity Science is changing culture" (Charles Jencks - 95), "Minds, brains and programs" (John Searle - 87), "Cyberspace & the Sublime" (Jack Voller - 93) are indispensable if one wants to understand and live both today and the next future. Together with Meister Eckhart's writings, Hermes Trismegistos, the Plato - Plotin path, the Buddhist path, Einstein, Heisenberg, Bohm, Wiener, Bohr (Light & Life, the Bohr-Einstein dialogue), Broglie, Mandelbrot, Virilio, and even Bill Gates writings ... .
Broken boundaries between art, science and religion rely on new physics theories - Einstein's extended theory of relativity, sub-atomic quantum and string theories - demonstrating that space & time have, theoretically, collapsed. That particles are light waves. That ultimately, we are made of (Divine) light.
Abolishing the ontological dichotomy between spirit and matter, borderline philosophy-science seems to become increasingly closer to the explanation of the Mystery of God's method of playing with everything ... to the mystery of the Unitary Divine Project.
Art, physics and metaphysics seem to mingle.
Net de-materializes and etherealizes art ("ethereal" in Oxford Dictionary is explained as "extremely delicate and light in a way that seems not to be of this world"). De-objectificates art and propels it toward other dimensions.
The mediation between technophobes and technophiles could also help in the future and even as mediation between utopian and critical writing.
The multimedia renewal generates the social construction of knowledge (someone said). VR opens the gate to other dimensions (imitating God, Artifex Maximus of our brains. But this imitation should also consider ethical issues ... . Yet, machines can't emulate souls ... . Soul can't be digitalized even if Utopia seems less utopian and closer to reality than ever).
Next future will, maybe, rely more than on (AI) Cognition on (Human) Intuition.
Daringly admitting that arts could shift towards metaphysics, transcending cognition - for intuition - the superior degree of cognition, towards Love. And with Love and by Love's laws we will all probably judged. And Love is what is left above all, on the Other side, after this life, above all Dimensions.
Techno-romanticism (also intended as freedom and sublime feeling without bounds within IT) could gain hyper-dimensions in the fields of fun & love.
In the next future it could also be useful maintaining some days away from computers (www and net-computer-art & dot & com), happily praying, flying (because today this is really affordable, in contrast to Leonardo's era when this was pure utopia. Could history being understood as a sequence of utopias becoming reality?).
Or revisiting old media (contemplative and static), in a disinhibate way - returning after (or as a break) while being impregnated with new media (dynamic and pervading.)
Using new media but suppressing addiction to them (addiction as
such has always a malefic side.) Renouncing the aridity of technique
di per se.
Renouncing some hyper-refined/decadent, shocking or insidious areas of the culture of Death ... fin de siecle ... . A redemption through a possible shift to a culture of Love ...? Spreading Love all over ... like Light ... as unique principle transcending Manichean threshold ... .
Just surpassing disrupted, fragmented, decentred, alienating postmodernism which maintained the ambiguous, disjunctive human/machine relationship ... . As postmodernism dies ... a new kind and more gentle, holistic understanding appears ... . Together with the ebb of aggression.
Next future art could still rely on the human (unsatisfied) desire to soar into infinity. (apud Schlegel - "On the limits of the Beautiful", 1860). And on mutual understanding: helping distressed people; becoming socially involved for others' goodness/welfare (avoiding be unethical).
The work of art should shift from competition/ institutionalization/ instrumentalization ... to compassion and love. Relating to people. Relating to a deep, cosmic ambiance ... .
The work of art = a relationship with the other/otherness/worldwideness.
Artists should (metaphorically) act like Quanta (waves regarded as particles), thus expressing the inner, deepest relationship between Man/Nature/Divinity. By shifting between the status of dynamism (perpetual mobility, efficiency, nomadism, ubiquity, www-s, SMS-s ...) and contemplation. Transcending machines and AI for para-normal intuition and profoundly cosmic linked affects.
Efficiency diktat of computer age and infinite flux of indiscriminate information - contains an illusory and non-exhaustive efficiency due to the vague and indeterminate infinite of its multiplicity of options.
Hyperactive and hyperinformed man/artist appears to split more and more from the contemplative one ... but maybe, like Quanta, he has to fulfill this dichotomy ... .
"Cyberculture invokes a romantic apocalyptic vision of a cybernetic rapture, a new electronically induced return to the unity, an age in which the material world will be transcended by information" (Coyne). But besides the global unity imposed by AI & infos highways ... maybe there is to be found a much profound Unity evolved from Light.
The material world transcended by information is ultimately transcended by light waves ... Cyber approaches Metaphysical thinking.
Everything finally seems to be transcended by (Divine) Light vibration as Unique Principle, as ontological overwhelming concept which only lasted ... .
The revelation that we are all pervaded by light ... (and so for the arts ...)
