This painting, "Yellow Accident", is one in an ongoing series of oil on canvas paintings. The images used as source material for this series are all taken from web sites that fetishize the mortality of the human body. These sites are commonplace and they feature images that span the gamut from mass genocide to the cadavers of celebrities. Because on-line one often feels detached from experiencing these images of brutality in a physical way, my intention here is to examine the apparent disregard for the physical body in an era where we are also pushing limitations of it (through plastic surgery, genetic engineering and the like). I do this by materializing these electronic transmissions in the physical substance of oil paint. This process works to present the viewer with a static view of something which is generally meant to be seen in a matter of seconds; images which include suicides, homicides or various other tragic deaths.
