There are many utopian visions of the future of art. I find many of them interesting. For now, I believe that our future lies in present art's attempt to grasp the 'other', i. e. dimensions of cultural differences that have gone missing, put aside or excluded from artistic representation. The 'return of the repressed' for some time to come will define our attitude towards making art. Understanding the question of 'otherness' will finally shift from seeing the 'other' as a subject recognised as an equal signifier of modernity. It is possible to view this question in terms of connectivity in between the self and the other, the present and the past, the West and the Rest, the material and the immaterial ... the list could be endless. Only after producing this difficult task of connectivity for visual arts there will be a possibility to think about all of this again with a difference.
