Author of "Nouvelles Chines, nouveaux cinemas" (Paris, 1999) and "Hou Hsiao-hsien's 'A City of Sadness' " (London, forthcoming). Her work has been published in Sight & Sound, Screen (UK), Film Comment, Afterimage, The Independent (USA), Cahiers du cinéma, Libération, CinemAction (France), Meteor, Springerin (Austria), Nosferatu (Spain) and Cinemaya, the Asian Film Quarterly (India), among others - she published also a number of scholarly publications and catalogue articles in the United States, the UK, France, Austria and Italy.

She has curated a number of film and video series for Artists Space, The Collective for Living Cinema, the Museum of Modern Art (New York), the UCLA Film Archives (Los Angeles), The Festival d'Automne, the Galerie Nationale du Jeu de Paume (Paris). She is a correspondent for the San Sebastian International Film Festival (Spain), the Viennale (Austria) and the Créteil International Women's Film Festival (Paris) and has been an advisor for several film programs for the Pesaro International Film Festival (Italy), the Jerusalem Film Festival, the Asian-Cine-Vision Film Festival in New York, the Asian Pacific Film Festival in Los Angeles, and various women's film festivals in the United States, Canada and France.

She has lectured on a variety of subjects from gender theory to Asian cinema and to experimental film throughout the United States, in France, Austria, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

She teaches film history, theory and criticism in the School of Critical Studies and the School of Film/Video at the California Institute of the Arts in Los Angeles.
