Boris Petkovski's research interests are the history of contemporary art and architecture, the visual arts in the 20th century, cultural studies and art theory.

He is President of the Italian Cultural Center of Macedonia, President of Honor of the Macedonian Section of the AICA - International Association of Art Critics and member of the European Society of Culture.

As a visiting professor he lectured at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Toronto (1998); at the Oriental Institute, University of Naples/Italy (1991); at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia (1989) and at the Slavistic Dept., University of Halle (1986).

Courses for students at home and at other institutions on the history of modern and contemporary art as well as Post-graduate Studies in art history, both at the Faculty of Philosophy (Institute of History of Art and Archeology, Skopje); also courses at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Skopje and at the Faculty of Philology, Dept. of Comparative Literature.

Boris Petkovski published 15 books (one in English language, others in Macedonian language with large summaries in English); about 800 further publications in Macedonian language and also in English, French, Italian, Serbian, etc.
