Studied art history, German literature and philosophy. Professor of art history at the Department of Art History, specialising in modern art history, at the Humboldt University in Berlin. Member of the graduate course on "Codierung von Gewalt im medialen Wandel" (patterns of violence during the medial turn) and collaborator in the gender studies course at the Humboldt University.

Research into art, architecture and political power since the French Revolution and into the gender studies in modern art history; theories and practice of representation in the arts since 1945; art of the 19th century.

Essays and research on metaphors in political cult architecture since 1789; on Adolph Menzel; on art of the 19th century, mainly in Italy and Germany for the purposes of the birth of the nations; on the relationship of avantgarde and totalitarian regimes of the '30s, especially in Italy; on the symbolic hierarchy of the sexes in Modern Art; on questions how to "read" non-figurative art after 1945; on "reading" violence in art since 1789.
