Spencer Snygg grew up in a poor neighborhood in New Jersey, where he witnessed poverty and violent racism firsthand. At the age of twelve, he and his brother started making films together. As they grew older, their artistic visions grew apart and the team eventually split. For quite a few years, Spencer earned his living doing lighting and camerawork for feature films and music videos. While doing this, he was confronted with his conscience. He was working on music videos with lyrics like "bitches ain't nothin' but ho's and tricks". This didn't suit well with him, and he tried to get out of the film business and do something to help fix society's ills. Politics wasn't something he was good at, so he tried teaching history. If children could be taught history as actions and consequences, and made to think about similar events in their own lives, perhaps, when they grew up, they wouldn't think in such short term selfish ways as many people in the world today do. But Spencer wasn't a great historian. He's an artist and filmmaker. He now earns his living teaching film at DeSales University in Pennsylvania and spends every free moment making films, sculptures, paintings and other art that directly invites the public to think about actions and consequences in their own lives. He does not show in galleries, but rather makes films that the public will see, and creates gorilla art in public places. Spencer received his B.F.A. from NYU Tisch School of the Arts and his M.F.A. from Rutgers Mason Gross School of the Arts.
