"Dinosaur" is one of a series of films which redirect the apparent novelty of digital technologies to the materiality of celluloid.
This work is a 35 mm film installation that uses a modified film projector with a barcode scanner in place of the exciter lamp. The barcode images are repeated on the soundtrack of the film loop, resembling a variable density optical track. The information read by the barcode scanner is output to a video monitor through a computer. The encoded information on the 35 mm film loop is decoded on the video screen.
