Before Duchamp presented the upside down urinal as art, it could never have been visualized or described except, perhaps, in philosophical terms. This phenomenon is also true of new media that have been invented over time.
The idea of networking, central to Internet Art, has been known and used for a long time; its current technological form, however, would have been a work of science fiction (and it was) before the World Wide Web's invention.
