Art is always changing, and always staying the same. Art is a language that constantly undergoes the influence of changing cultures and technology, but because it is communication from the core of human beings, at its core, art remains the same.
In recent years, many of us have lost sight of the value of communication and have sequestered ourselves and our work in elite pockets - in our cliques, galleries, and studios. We have been preaching to the choir. It's time to return to the party and talk to the rest of the people on our planet. I have been doing this by displaying my work in public spaces. In order to remind people of what we are giving up for security, I have, in the past, placed fake security cameras in public urinals. - To make people think about how TV is raising society, I made a sculpture of two kids praying to a TV set up on a cross and set it up at a bus stop. The people at the stop would eventually get bored and watch the TV, and everyone walking by would see a crowd of people staring at a TV set, set up on a cross with two kids praying to it.
Talking to yourself is often looked at as a sign of sickness. Art should strive to get healthier.
